El Escoces Volante Manga del Brujo, Calatayud, Spain 2020 Case (6x750ml)
The 2020 Manga del Brujo is an unoaked red blend produced with 70% old-vine Garnacha, 15% Syrah, 10% Bobal (instead of the Tempranillo used before) and 5% Mazuelo (Cariñena). It fermented and matured exclusively in epoxy-lined concrete tanks. It has an expressive nose, with abundant notes of aromatic herbs and the approachability of the 2020s. The texture felt softer (is it the Bobal?), and it's ripe (15% alcohol), juicy and with volume and concentration, more extraction than Papa Luna, a bit more serious. The final blend was waiting for the bottles, and there was enough wine to fill some 90,000 bottles that should get bottled from October–November 2021. They produced this wine in 2018 but skipped 2019, so 2020 will be the next vintage.
