Bodegas Lagar de Besada Anada de Baladina Rias Baixas, Spain 2012
Tasted once again, the most impressive 2012 Añada de Baladiña comes through as completely different. It has great aromatic complexity and is medicinal, floral and fruit-driven, with notes of cloves, peach and bay leaf. This comes from small plots of 25- to 40-year-old vines, and it fermented with indigenous yeasts after 10 hours of maceration with the skins. But what makes this wine stand apart is the fact that it was kept in stainless steel for 10 years and eight months!! Yes, a long time. For the first two years, the lees were stirred, but for the rest of the time, it was kept more reductively. 2,650 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

Golden yellow in the glass, this wine offers a bouquet of Anjou pear and dried thyme and sage. An unusual aged Albariño, it spent 10 years in tank on the lees, which led to a gorgeous texture and herbaceous touches mingling with flavors of pineapple, grapefruit and passionfruit. It is full and round on the palate and offers notes of citrus and flowers with a touch of smoke on the finish.
