Proyecto Las Compuertas 'Cinco Suelos' Malbec, Las Compuertas, Argentina 2022
This is a medium-bodied Malbec from Argentina, created from five different tracts of vineyard. Each represents a different type of soil, making this a truly multifaceted wine. Look for sweet scents of plum, cassis, red hedgerow berries, and orange peel, coupled with subtle herbaceous hints.
Durigutti is a family winery, founded by brothers Héctor and Pablo in 2002. They are Mendoza natives, working tirelessly to express their homeland through the medium of wine. The winery is located in the diverse terroir of Las Compuertas, within the wider appellations of Luján de Cuyo and Mendoza. To create “Cinco Suelos”, the two brothers have harvested grapes from a combination of deep clay loam, silt loam, rocky loam, sandy loam and boulder loam.
Cinco Suelos coats the palate in a medley of black fruit flavours: blackberry, blackcurrant and plum, supported by hints of spice and dried herbs. The grapes were fermented in egg-shaped concrete casks before bottling, imparting a dense, velvety mouthfeel. The finish is long, with rich accents of beetroot, and there are finely-grained tannins and vibrant acidity throughout. This is a mould-breaking Malbec, suitable for pairing with mushroom sauce, red meat, or grilled chicken.
